About the event
Join us for an inspiring evening with Gavin S. Coates 高嘉雲 – landscape architect, children’s book author, illustrator, and Senior Lecturer at The University of Hong Kong – as he shares his unique journey blending environmental design with imaginative storytelling.
For over 35 years, Gavin has shaped Hong Kong’s green spaces, from the cascading waterfall in Hong Kong Park to the planting of over 20,000 trees under the Greening Master Plan. Beyond his contributions to urban greenery, Gavin is the creative mind behind a beloved series of environmental children’s books including The Last Nut and Earthy is Nuts about Trees.
He’ll talk about the intersection of ecology and creativity, the power of engaging young minds through storytelling, and how his "Digital Arboretum" project turned a lockdown limitation into a thousand-video-strong resource on plant life.
